At the age of 74, Eric Carmen, the singer-songwriter of several solo successes such as “All By Myself,” “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again,” and “Hungry Eyes,” passed away. He became the front man of the powerpop band Raspberries.

On his official website , Carmen’s wife, Amy, made the news of his passing. The reason of death was not stated.

Go All The Way

Given their years of performing together, it should come as no surprise that the band clicked instantly and forcefully. They soon signed with Capitol Records and teamed up with producer-manager Jimmy Ienner, the older brother and business partner of future Columbia Records CEO Don Ienner. The senior Ienner was also an excellent producer, contributing to the band’s vivid pop-power combination.”Go All the Way” fused aspects of several distinct genres together, such as hard rock bands like the Who and Free, girl groups, the Beatles, and Beach Boys.

The controversy surrounding the unusually graphic lyrics, which were still unusual for Top 40 radio in the summer of 1972, either helped or hindered the song’s rise to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

All By Myself

Less than 18 months after the Raspberries released their last album, Carmen scored a No. 2 single with the melancholic “All by Myself,” a song that subverted and channeled Nilsson’s hit cover of Badfinger’s “Without You,” complete with the soaring chorus and tumultuous orchestra. However, within a year, Carmen had teamed up with Clive Davis at his newly launched Arista Records.

The songs “All by Myself,” “Go All The Way”,”Make Me Lose Control,” and “Hungry Eyes” all spent more than four months in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Thirteen of Carmen’s songs were included in the chart.
